Prints vs Discs

I have had a lot of questions about this the past few years, along with some sad stories.  I just spoke to a client the other day who hired a wedding "photographer" who charged what she thought was a good price for what she was expecting to get.  She received the disc of wedding images and they looked good on the computer when they were posted to her social media sites.  Our discussion then turned sad when she said that her grandmother (who has since passed away) was in many of the images because she told the photographer that is what she wanted, and she wanted larger prints as well as files.  Well, the files turned out to be so small that paper prints were very grainy when printed and she was heart broken. She called me to see if I could fix it!  Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do. The wedding photographer then told her they were large printable files and in fact the quality was not what she was expecting.  She in fact was grossly over charged for what she got and felt cheated.I tell that story with a heavy heart because I have heard it so many times from so many different people.  The calls come almost weekly now.  I have been prompted to do some research on this and found out some interesting facts.  When you burn your pictures on cds or dvds  the longest you can expect the image to last is 10 years.  The ...

How much do portraits cost? Try an apples to apples comparison.....

A good place to start is comparing "Apples to Apples" not "Apples to Oranges".  You will have to find a photographer with  Good portfolio examples and find out what they charge.  If too much seek elsewhere, but you will typically get what you pay for.  You do not have to spend a small fortune, but thinking you are going to get quality work at a very low cost from some internet photography "business" is a recipe for disappointment.  For example a typical portrait package from a professional portrait studio in this area could be 2-8x10's, 3-5x7's, and 56 wallets  for $249, and many other combinations around this cost.  You can build your own package that suits your needs and budget.  I guess the very best advice I can give you from my own experience is: our lives move so quickly and we rarely stop to enjoy the fleeting moments of everyday experiences.  We try to squeeze as much in for as little cost as possible to provide for our family what they want without stopping to think of the long term consequences of our decisions.  When you invest in your memories with quality portraits you are not only going to enjoy the results now.  You are investing in your future legacy that will be admired and enjoyed by your children, grandchildren etc.  Let this not be the LOST generation that has been proposed. Make your image ...

Springs Hot Color………..

I find color to be so inspiring and energizing. Have you ever been so moved just by the colors of a sunset? What about an abstract painting that has no distinct form, yet it draws you in simply by the blending of color? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that colors play a large role in art expression. Colors have the capacity to change the feeling of a room with a simple bucket of paint, or to reflect your current mood by the type of clothing you wear! When looking for something new and fresh for fashion inspiration, the PANTONE color of the year is a great place to start!Just recently, I considered incorporating the color of the year for shoot inspiration. And by doing this, it’s an easy way to guarantee you will always be on trend with what is relevant in the fashion and beauty realm!
